The fortress has taken us now away from its peak next to the sea to a new coast but instead of keeping to its old ways of being atop a steep cliff this time it decided to rest near the coast which intrigued us quite a bit.
Lord Demantus and myself have decided to explore this new expanse by ourselves despite young Tha'ga's insistence that we at least bring some of our slaves from the fortress. But he is still inexperienced or perhaps he plans to put some of his personal slaves to keep an eye on what we do, he finally lets us go as we are when we tell him that as long as we are gone he shall be the master and ruler of the fortress, the ever greedy disciple drops his protests after this.
Demantus keeps telling me to let him do as he pleases for now that there will come a time to backhand the boy so he can learn his proper place, this would be a lot easier if he did not encourage some of his most impulsive ideas.
So at dawn we decided to follow the coast on foot see what kind of land is this, see if someone comes to greet us and if so if it is a people worth subduing into servitude as we have done to so many people in our travels with the fortress. We dress only in light leather armor, Demantus leaving behind his usual battlemage outfit and war-staff, for me it is also strange to go out like this and not in the usual plate mail that I done so often when in a new place, but with the burden of the days heat already being felt even so early in the morning we decide these are the best outfits for the occasion should we encounter any trouble.
The day progresses slowly, the sound of the surf and wind beats to our right to our left a very large plain and a very thick jungle at the end of it yet no signs of wildlife or people, I tell Demantus that this could be our retreat when we need to get away from the usual gloom of the cliff where the fortress enjoys resting most of the time. he only answers that where's the fun in that, this coast seems to be to tranquil even for him.
By the time sun down reaches us we still haven't found anything of interest yet to me the stillness of this untouched beachhead soothes my aching soul and makes me forget for a while the charge that I left back at the fortress,we decide to camp on the edge of the plain where smooth grass meets white sand.
Nighttime is even calmer still, the sky is clear and shows us a full set of stars. Demantus tries to tell where we are using the night sky, trying to pin point how far we are from our conquered lands he sees nothing. The cool sea breeze keep me calm even in this foreign land.
And so we rest.
