In the Fortress he suffers

He was hung from his manacled wrists so he would never fall to his feet,"Why have you come?" said the prisoner, his deep voice resonated in the dungeon halls as he stared down into the endless night that were the eyes of his captor, "I have come to see of you have changed your mind" all the response he got. "You expect me to break easily or soon? you are sadly mistaken" he screams at the man in the entrance to his cell, spittle and froth coming out of his mouth as he utters the last word, "We'll see".

His captor turned back and left the cell, and as the sound of his booted feet faded from the halls outside, the nightmares came, his mind once again assailed by the voices of the people he'd sworn to protect and failed so terribly to do so, their screams of despair of disappointment accusing him for their deaths, he screamed and thrashed as much as he could in his heart breaking with every woman and child that came to him to point at his failure.

Time passed and his consciousness faded his manacled arms were lowered so he could sit against a wall but were not as much so as to allow his arms any rest, the voices had faded for now but the pain remained in his heart, in his soul. The damage that he took while he thrashed about he didn't even register he was accustomed to the pain of the body, but his hear was breaking bit by bit every time he heard his people.

Days passed or at least he thought they did, he could not be certain in this dark cell, once again he stood new scars surrounded his wrists and a bruise covered half his forehead caused after a crash with the back wall of his cell. "Why" he screamed over an over again, but the man he had seen did not return. "Do you want me under your thrall? Do you want me to beg for this torment to end?" all that came was a voice that sounded as if it were in the same room, "All we want is for you to understand that their passing was in no way your fault that you did what you could even if it ultimately failed" "We offer you a new meaning, new purpose, should you accept that this grievances are not yours to burden".

He laughed for hours on end he laughed and they waited soon after the voices came rolling back.
